Deeply embedded into any francophile’s subconscious, Catherine Deneuve’s bevy of bow-tied bouffants in 1964 Jacques Demy musical film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg are an enduring reference above the neck.
And last night during an appearance on The Tonight Show, Jessica Alba put forth her own interpretation of the iconic look, to bombshell effect. With her glossy brunette mane boosted by deftly-applied extensions courtesy of hairstylist the actress’s polished waves were pulled back and back combed into a voluminous half-up style, topped off with an elegant black satin ribbon.
Driving home the French mod élan of Deneuve, Alba’s makeup artist Daniel Martin drew a duo of jet-black kittenish flicks on her brown gaze—smoking them out and enhancing their winged shape with individual lashes applied on the outer corners. And in keeping with the retro-leaning reference, her preternaturally luminous complexion was enhanced with a subtle flush on the cheeks and slick of petal pink on the mouth.
With cat eyes forever a universal makeup go-to, and towering, sky-scraping manes and kitschy hair accessories trending on the runways, Alba’s vintage moment is a cool pivot from her typically more natural look—and more relevant than ever. If you love this look then stop in and talk with one of the talented Stylist’s at Chemel Salon. Chemel Salon is the best salon in Tacoma and is certainly the best salon near me.
